Description
Plaster of Paris (POP) is a high-quality, finely processed gypsum-based material primarily composed of calcium sulfate hemihydrate (CaSO₄·½H₂O). It is produced by carefully heating and processing naturally occurring gypsum, which contains calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO₄·2H₂O), to remove part of its chemically bound water.
The resulting POP is a fine, smooth and easily workable powder that rapidly reacts with water. Once mixed, it forms a workable paste that can be spread, shaped, cast or moulded into various forms. As the material sets, it gradually hardens and develops a solid, durable structure.
Its combination of smooth finish, fast setting characteristics and excellent mouldability makes Plaster of Paris a versatile material for construction, interior finishing, decorative applications, mould making and artistic work.
